My Role

Recognizing the need to enhance financial education among families and children in the US, NuMoola adopts a user-centric approach, prioritizing simplicity and engagement. Collaborating with educators, we design intuitive digital platforms and mobile apps featuring interactive and age-appropriate financial lessons, enriched by gamification and interactive storytelling to enhance learning.
Acknowledging parents' role in shaping financial habits, we offer user-friendly resources – videos, guides – fostering money conversations. Highlighting parental involvement, NuMoola emphasizes that financial education is a shared endeavor, empowering future generations with essential money management skills from an early age.
The Problem

Across the United States, there exists a concerning deficiency in financial education within families and among children. Many households struggle to impart essential financial knowledge, leaving young individuals unprepared to navigate the complexities of money management as they grow. This absence of early guidance can lead to a lack of understanding about budgeting, saving, and responsible spending, ultimately impacting their financial decisions in adulthood.
Fostering financial literacy within families and incorporating it into educational curricula is vital to empower the next generation with the skills needed for a secure and prosperous financial future.
Research

In addressing the limited financial education among US families and children, NuMoola takes a research-driven approach. Through user interviews and testing, we understand parents’ and young learners’ needs, unveiling challenges and solutions. We identify gaps in educational resources, collaborating with experts to create engaging content tailored to kids’ developmental stages. Our user-friendly tools empower parents to actively engage in their children’s financial education, fostering practical learning and conversations about money. Guided by research and user-centered design, NuMoola aims to bridge the financial education gap with accessible digital solutions that empower families and enhance children’s financial literacy.
Brainstorming & Ideation
After gaining a profound understanding of the importance of financial education, I initiated an impactful ideation workshop at NuMoola. Collaborating closely with product managers, education experts, and adept developers, this workshop yielded significant insights. It clarified the app's vision, forged a cohesive product roadmap, and laid the groundwork for well-considered business models, setting the stage for a comprehensive and strategic approach to addressing the critical need for financial literacy.

Information Architecture & Flows
In dealing with a multifaceted system involving various stakeholders, it became crucial to establish a comprehensive information architecture that seamlessly guided the entire process from one lifecycle phase to the next. This pivotal step laid the foundation for the system and played a pivotal role in shaping the subsequent UI design process.

NuMoola Wireframes
Employing the versatile tool of Whimsical proved to be highly advantageous, as it facilitated the rapid creation of wireframes that closely mirrored the pre-established architecture and user flows. This preliminary visual representation allowed for a tangible exploration of the intended design structure before delving deeper. Subsequently, these wireframes underwent a series of fruitful discussions and deliberations within the team.
This collaborative process not only ensured a comprehensive evaluation but also paved the way for the evolution and enhancement of the wireframe design. Through this iterative approach, the final wireframes emerged as a culmination of collective insights, resulting in a well-defined and strategically refined blueprint for the subsequent stages of development.

Design & Prototyping
App design and prototyping play a pivotal role in shaping the user experience and functionality of digital solutions. Design goes beyond aesthetics; it’s about creating intuitive interfaces, ensuring seamless navigation, and delivering a visually appealing yet functional platform. Through careful design, users are more likely to engage, find value, and build trust with the app.
Prototyping, on the other hand, allows designers and stakeholders to visualize the app’s flow, interactions, and user pathways before development begins. It’s a crucial step that helps identify potential issues early, iterate on design elements, and refine the user journey. Ultimately, investing in thoughtful app design and prototyping enhances user satisfaction, reduces development risks, and contributes to the overall success of the final product.

The Handoff

Upon finalizing the UX/UI designs, I orchestrate a seamless hand-off to developers. This involves compiling comprehensive design assets, including detailed wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, interactive prototypes, and a meticulously annotated style guide. Clear documentation accompanies these assets, outlining design rationale, user interactions, and technical specifications.
Regular communication and collaboration between the designer and developers during this process ensure a smooth transition, enabling the development team to accurately interpret and translate the design vision into a functional, user-centric digital product.
The Wrap Up
As a UX/UI designer, I believe I played a pivotal role in tackling the lack of financial education among US families and children. We as a team created engaging financial education app through thorough research and collaboration, considering the needs of parents and kids. By designing intuitive interfaces, interactive content, and involving parents, NuMoola bridge the educational gap, fostering financial literacy and empowerment. This process encompasses ideation, wireframing, prototyping, and seamless hand-off to developers, resulting in a comprehensive digital solution that benefits families and children alike.
